The event was a virtual conference with virtual SAR Games, bringing together search and rescue responders from all SAR agencies and disciplines, emergency response and emergency management organizations from across Canada to share knowledge, best practices, and discuss emerging issues. Caroline spoke about the IMRF’s #WomenInSAR Initiative, which works to increase the representation of women in the maritime sector generally and to provide support for, and raise the profile of, women in the maritime SAR sector specifically. She highlighted the purpose of the campaign, its achievements to date and the IMRF’s plans for the future in this important area. The presentation was shared with Andrew Tate from the RNLI. He talked about the RNLI’s WinE Day initiative which is now in its sixth year. The day invites 50 female students from eight schools who are in years 7 and 8 (11-13 years old) for a series of motivational and fun innovation challenges based around science, technology, engineering and math-related (STEM) activities and demonstrations. The students also have a chance to meet RNLI people who work in engineering. Find out more about the RNLI WinE Day here. To find out more about the IMRF’s #WomenInSAR initiative, click here.
