The International Maritime Rescue Federation has held a basic rescue boat operating course, in conjunction with the RNLI, specifically tailored and structured for maritime SAR (search and rescue) professionals from Africa. The teaching is designed to be a ‘train the trainer’ course, so the participants will return home and share the learnings with their organisations and colleagues. Read more

SAR Capacity Building in Africa
Working in Partnership with IMO
Since 2012, the IMRF, with the IMO Technical Cooperation Division, has been helping key states in Africa to develop a well-functioning SAR coordination capability.
The IMRF work complements IMO-funded initiatives, by working with Maritime Administrations, MRCCs and MRSCs to identify development needs and provide specialist programmes of training, knowledge-sharing and international networking.
