IMRF Awards 2023

When completing the nomination, please give as much information as you can on:
- When and where the operation took place;
- Who was involved;
- What actually happened;
- What made the operation so challenging;
- What were the weather/sea conditions;
- The skills and/or expertise that made a difference to the outcome;
- The result of the operation (e.g. how many lives were saved?);
- Any longer-term impacts (e.g. changes in operational procedures after the incident)?

Nominations for the International Maritime Rescue Federation (IMRF) Awards will be accepted from individual SAR professionals or volunteers, and professional or volunteer search-and-rescue (SAR) organisations recognised by the IMRF.

Please indicate on the nomination form if your nomination is supported by an IMRF Member organisation.

Each nomination will be assessed by an experienced, international judging panel, all of whom have related SAR industry expertise.

Details of the judges will be announced on the IMRF Awards page on our website nearer the time of the ceremony.

All nominations are accepted on the understanding that the decisions of the judging panel are final.

The IMRF will not enter into correspondence, or dialogue, regarding the decisions of the judges.

Posthumous nominations will not be accepted.

Nominations should relate to events/activities that have taken place in the qualifying period (1 July 2022 until 30 June 2023). Nominations for events/activities taking place outside of this period will not be accepted.

It is understood that nominations in the Innovation & Technology category will have had a development period. However, the first practical application of the software/hardware or improved practices must fall within the time period specified.

Nominations for the Lifetime Achievement Award and the #WomenInSAR Award should be for individuals, who were still involved in some capacity in maritime SAR during the qualifying period (1 July 2022 – 31 May 2023).

Nominations must be submitted using the IMRF Awards - Nomination Form (paper or online version).

All nominations should be made in English, using clear, concise and straightforward language. Please avoid using jargon, unexplained abbreviations or acronyms wherever possible.

Nominations that are incomplete, or where the video is over four minutes, may not be accepted.

The IMRF will accept up to three different nominations from the same organisation or individuals.

In the case of the Innovation & Technology Award category, each nomination must be for a markedly different technological, administrative or logistical innovation.

A separate Nomination Form must be completed for each nomination, even if the nominations are for the same award category.

Nominations for the 2023 IMRF Awards close at 23.59 hours (UTC) on Friday, 14 July 2023(The actions of the nomination should have taken place between 1 July 2022 until 30 June 2023.)

The IMRF reserves the right to make awards at its own discretion.


Videos Submitted as Part of the Nomination

If you wish to add a video, you can add the URL to the IMRF Awards 2022 Nomination form. This is an optional part of the application.

  • The video should not be more than 4 minutes long.
  • Upload your video to YouTube, or Vimeo, or send it to [email protected] by the free website wetransfer.com.
  • In YouTube or Vimeo select the ‘Unlisted’ option from the settings (this means only people with the link can watch your video).
  • Make sure you add the URL to the relevant part of your nomination form, so the judges can watch it.

Photos Submitted as Part of the Nomination

Please add at least one photo (preferably more) to your nomination.

Please indicate the file name(s) of the photo(s) of the nominee person (head/shoulder photo), or the group photo(s) of the team/group in the online form.

Ensure your image is larger than 1 MB (high resolution). Most image formats are accepted (.eps, .jpg, .jpeg, .png, .tiff, .pdf, etc.).

Please note that your nomination form, contact details, images and details will be forwarded to the IMRF Team and judges for consideration, with all details saved/backed up on the IMRF’s Cloud system.

If your nomination is shortlisted, we reserve the right to publish the name of the nomination, with any photos, videos and website URL (if any) and the story of the nominated person/team/service/invention & innovation, on a variety of media/online/social media channels, including - but not limited to - the IMRF website, our news e-mails, the SAR HUB Bulletin for “Members Only”, and other promotional mediums.  

This will be for the purposes of raising awareness of and promoting the IMRF.

We will not publish your or the nominee’s contact details. We will not give, or sell, your personal details to third parties.

If at any point you no longer want your name, contact details and nomination details to be stored and used by us, or you wish to withdraw your nomination, please contact us on [email protected].
