Maritime SAR Aviation Panel The IMRF has established the SAR Aviation Panel (SAP) to address the lack of formal international benchmarks for aviation Search and Rescue (SAR) standards. The panel promotes harmonised global standards and practices for aviation SAR services and those working with aviation assets in SAR operations, enhancing safety, quality, and consistency. The SAP identifies inconsistencies, raises awareness of operational weaknesses, and supports safe and effective practices. It provides a virtual forum for members, including aviation service providers, Coast Guards, and Aeronautical Rescue Coordination Centres, to share experiences, operational learnings, and best practices. The panel also develops guidance for maritime Rescue Coordination Centres (RCCs) and rescue vessels to improve their understanding and use of aviation assets, enhancing SAR outcomes. Additionally, the SAP offers technical advice to the IMRF on SAR-related discussions within ICAO, IMO, and other global forums.
