The IMRF's Global Maritime SAR Forum (GMSF) is the world's leading global SAR community platform to share, present and discuss current, new, or proposed technologies, processes, procedures, skills, techniques, training, lessons, and experiences with a view to sharing information to improve SAR.

The virtual meetings will be held monthly and are open to IMRF members only. The meetings will consist of a presentation followed by an open discussion. The presentation part of the meeting will be recorded and put on the members only area of the IMRF website. The GMSF will take over from the Future Technology Panel (FTP) and will expand the excellent work done by the FTP.

These forums are only available to IMRF Members only. If your organisation is not an IMRF member, but would like to join this forum, please visit our membership page for more details on IMRF membership and complete our application.

The next meeting will take place on 20 December at 19:00 UTC on the subject: ‘The Challenges of Keeping up With Technology in Search and Rescue’, presented by Dave Morris, HM Coastguard, United Kingdom.

To join the next GMSF Forum, contact Roly McKie, the IMRF's SAR Advisor and lead of the GMSF committee.

We have a number of upcoming scheduled forums, including:

  • Next Generation Swedish Rescue Vessels - 17 January 2024 | 19:00 UTC | Presented by Capt. Jonas Carlson, SSRS, Sweden
  • Never Miss a Piece of Information - How a Maritime Automatic Speech Recognizer (Asr) Will Improve Our SAR Capabilities - 14 February 2024 | 19:00 UTC | Presented by Thomas Luebke, DGzRS, Germany

Future GSMF meeting subjects will include:

  • ‘AI and The Future of Shipping’, a part 2 of the SAR-AI focused first GMSF meeting, reminding us that commercial ships are the fundamental SAR units at sea, and how AI might affect their operations and activities.

Future meeting dates and their topics will be announced shortly across our social media platforms, website and in IMRF Weekly.
