Remotely Operated and Autonomous craft

This is the global maritime SAR Forum from May 2024. Below you can find the summary report and webinar recording.

Two presentations were to be given: the first was by Roly McKie, explained IMOs proposals contained in their Draft Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships (MASS) Code and the technical and procedural complexity involved in the proposed development of vessels with few or no crew and increased automation. There are also extra challenges and risks and benefits from the intentions by the ship building industry, and ship owners and operators, to create autonomous ships which will operate using artificial intelligence and probably no crew. With this new paradigm approaching, there is a need for extensive planning and regulatory development to ensure that SAR operations remain effective as autonomous and remotely operated ships become more prevalent.
