Blog: BSM hosts maritime summit and opens new training centre in Ghana IMRF member Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement (BSM) has marked a major milestone in its long-standing commitment to maritime training with the launch of its sixth global Maritime Training Centre (MTC), located in Accra, Ghana. The opening formed part of a wider summit, “Navigating the Future: Setting Sail Under Africa’s Star,” which brought together maritime leaders, educators, policymakers, and innovators from across the globe. The two-day event focused on Africa’s untapped maritime potential, the need to invest in local talent, and how the global industry can support inclusive and sustainable growth. Held at the Regional Maritime University (RMU), the new training centre is equipped with advanced simulation tools and offers tailored courses for cadets, officers, and hotel service professionals. The centre aims to support not only Ghana, but the broader West African region, by providing high-quality, industry-aligned training. BSM’s investment in Ghana reflects a growing recognition of the continent’s importance to the future of seafaring. With a rapidly expanding youth population and increasing demand for skilled maritime professionals, initiatives like this play a vital role in building regional capacity and supporting the global search and rescue (SAR) ecosystem. Through its training centres and strong partnerships, BSM continues to advocate for accessible, practical maritime education, ensuring crews are equipped with the skills needed to respond effectively at sea, including during emergencies.
