Michael Vlasto, Chair of the IMRF Awards Judging Panel 2021, writes about the importance of recognising SAR achievements in challenging times.

We are now starting to see the horizon again as the world gets to grips with the COVID pandemic and hopefully a degree of normality lies ahead.

Throughout the pandemic, the saving of life on the waters of the world has continued, regardless of the obstacles and difficulties the pandemic has brought upon us.

These unique and significant challenges have not lessened the resolve or dedication of those involved and many useful lessons have been learned as a result.

All global maritime SAR related activities are worthy of appreciation.

However, some achievements really stand out and merit closer focus and more tangible recognition.

This is not only to inform the wider public of the good work still being done, despite the challenges faced over the past 15 months or so, but also allows those involved in the wider maritime SAR family to learn from the experiences of their colleagues.

And this pandemic has certainly meant that we have all had much to learn!

With this in mind, the IMRF Awards recognise the achievements of individuals, teams, organisations or companies from the global maritime SAR community who have demonstrated outstanding professionalism and exceptional dedication to saving lives, through their actions or through innovative new SAR products and technologies.

These achievements have been all the more significant in the current challenging circumstances.

In 2020, the IMRF had to cancel the planned Awards ceremony as a result of the pandemic.

However, we are determined to hold the Awards again this year, albeit in an online format – now, more than ever, we need to celebrate all that the global SAR family has achieved.

So please consider nominating those individuals, teams or organisations who have helped to sustain a safe, effective maritime SAR service, no matter what challenges they have faced.

The IMRF Awards Are Unique.

They represent an opportunity for IMRF member organisations and others involved in maritime SAR, to share their stories and highlight the efforts of those teams and individuals who have excelled and performed beyond expectations.

This is your chance to show your appreciation!

We have already received some nominations, that were submitted for the cancelled 2020 Awards, but the Judging Panel is also keen to receive more nominations for the extended period from 1 July 2019 to 31 May 2021.

So, Don’t Delay – Submit Your Nomination Today!
