IMRF Maritime SAR Academy: Latest updates on training and resources The IMRF Maritime SAR Academy continues to build strong momentum, reflecting a shared commitment to the future of search and rescue (SAR). Designed as a global hub for learning, training and knowledge sharing, the Academy endeavours to raise standards while keeping training accessible, regardless of resources. It empowers SAR personnel to build skills, share experience, and continually strengthen their effectiveness in saving lives on the water. Encouragingly, there has already been a strong response from SAR professionals volunteering as user testers and e-learning module authors. Further opportunities remain for those interested in contributing their time, experience and expertise as module authors or user testers, those interested can see the contact details below. At the same time, the Learning Management System (LMS) is taking shape in collaboration with Quay Group, while the first e-learning modules are progressing through a robust production and quality assurance process. A full rollout schedule for the learning modules will be announced in the coming months, with access provided free of charge to IMRF members and participants from 43 low resource countries. It is expected that the first e-learning module, titled On-Scene Coordinator, will be available to eligible users via the Academy’s LMS towards the end of April. As part of the next phase of development, additional modules will be developed and tested by volunteer authors and the team. Alongside newly created content, selected pre-existing materials will also be made available in the coming months. Importantly, the Academy goes beyond e-learning. It will continue to be supported by a wider programme of webinars, podcasts and onboarding events, ensuring a dynamic and accessible learning environment throughout the year. At its core, the Academy aims to provide accessible, adaptable and relevant learning materials aligned with internationally recognised SAR guidance. This alignment is supported by the expertise of its Advisory Panel (EAP), and multi sector Working Group. EAP members from around the globe help to ensure consistency, relevance and quality across all content. While the Academy is not a certification body, it will play a vital role in supporting continuous professional development and strengthening organisational training frameworks. As the Academy looks to the future of maritime SAR training, it builds on decades of evolution in how lifesaving skills are developed and shared.
