The IMRF Maritime SAR Academy is launching its first e-learning modules, marking a major milestone in the development of a new global learning platform for maritime search and rescue (SAR) personnel.

Created to support accessible, high quality SAR training and professional development, the Academy has been designed to help individuals and organisations strengthen operational capability through flexible online learning, shared knowledge and internationally aligned guidance. Watch a short overview video and find out more on the IMRF website.

It is provided free of charge to IMRF members and participants from 44 low resource countries, helping to ensure learning opportunities remain widely accessible across the international SAR sector. If you organisation is not yet an IMRF member, click here to learn more about membership.

Eligible users will be able to access the Academy’s learning modules through the dedicated Learning Management System platform.

On-Scene Coordinator (OSC) Volume 3

Developed with input from SAR professionals and subject matter experts from across the international SAR community, the module focuses on the role and responsibilities of the On-Scene Coordinator during maritime incidents, supporting learners in developing practical operational understanding and decision-making.

There are three additional e-learning modules launching alongside On-Scene Coordinator Volume 3, covering a diverse range of subjects such as team motivation, mentoring others and working across cultures.

Motivating Your Team: Team work is central to all SAR operations. This course reviews the types of motivation, the unique forces that motivate individuals and how that knowledge can be used to lead a successful team.

A Guide to Mentoring Others: Being a mentor is a fantastic way to share your knowledge and experience. In this course, you’ll find out more about what a mentor does, qualities an ideal mentor should possess and how to lead productive mentoring sessions.

Working Across Cultures: SAR is an international concern, involving people from many different countries and cultures. Working together effectively is essential. This course looks at how to communicate and collaborate harmoniously with people from around the world.

Development work is already progressing on future Maritime SAR Academy content including SAR Planning & Risk Assessment Volume 1
