Search and rescue first responders face extreme pressures every day.

These individuals often put their own personal safety at risk to ensure that those at sea are safe.

However, the impact of operating in such a high-stakes environment on a near constant basis can have an impact on the mental health and wellbeing of those involved in maritime SAR.

Jacob Tas, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Royal Netherlands Sea Rescue Institution (KNRM), talks about the difficult nature of maritime SAR operations and how this can impact the SAR crew.

He notes that KNRM continues to make crew wellbeing a priority for their organisation, including partnering with a professional trauma organisation that is available 24/7 to support their crews if needed.
