Search and rescue first responders face pressures unlike any other industry.

These individuals often put their own personal safety at risk every single day to ensure that those at sea are safe.

However, the impact of operating in such a high-stake environment on a near constant basis can have an impact on the mental health and wellbeing of those involved in maritime SAR.

Phil Bostock, Head of International Liaison for His Majesty’s Coastguard in the UK, talks to the IMRF about the importance of mental health and safety awareness in SAR organisations.

The IMRF’s #SARyouOK? Initiative is looking to increase awareness and further break down the stigma that is attached to mental health and wellbeing issues faced by those working in the maritime SAR sector.
