In our latest podcast episode, the IMRF turns the focus towards leadership and the practical steps organisations can take to support women in search and rescue. The #WomenInSAR initiative has grown steadily over the past seven years, and with that growth has come a stronger commitment from SAR leaders who recognise that inclusion is not a box to tick, but a responsibility to take seriously.

CEO Caroline Jupe is joined by Robert Scotland, Commandant of the Cayman Islands Coast Guard. In a thoughtful and frank discussion, Robert shares how his organisation is encouraging women within its crews to take on new challenges, develop specialist skills and step into leadership roles. This includes his support for the newly founded Overseas Territory and West Indies Women in SAR programme, which is the first group of its kind to support women in maritime SAR across the Caribbean.

The conversation highlights how visible support from senior leadership can make a real difference on the ground. By backing initiatives such as #WomenInSAR and fostering a culture where talent is recognised regardless of gender, organisations can strengthen their operational capability while building teams that properly reflect the communities they serve. It is a clear reminder that meaningful change does not happen by accident, it happens because leaders choose to make it a priority.
