SOS Mediterraneé is a European humanitarian SAR organisation operating in the Central Mediterranean to help saves lives of those fleeing Libya in overcrowded rubber boats.

To date, the SOS Mediterraneé SAR team have saved more than 35,000 lives, including women and children, during its seven-year operation. 

In April 2022 the team performed a precarious rescue of 70 people, including 17 minors, in a deflating rubber boat in the Mediterranean Sea.

The mission was complicated by the presence of the Libyan Coast Guard, which heightened the tensions and anxiety of all involved.

The crew of Ocean Viking remained calm and controlled, and performed the rescue of all the personnel safely despite the threats.
