John Millman has enjoyed a nearly 40-year career in SAR.

He is currently the Canadian Coast Guard’s Search Mission Coordinator (SMC) at the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) in Victoria and is the longest-serving person in that role in Canada’s history.

With more than 4,000 cases per year coming through JRCC, John has wrangled over 40,000 cases in his time there.

His level of professionalism and empathy with the families of those who have lost loved ones at sea is unchallenging, making himself available more than 10 years after the investigation had closed. 

John’s embodies the responsibility and burden of these types of conversations, knowing how important they can be for survivors and family members.
