IMRF Awards 2022 - Finalist - Lifboat, Pontus Hallin & Matthew Fader, Sweden

The Lifboat is a newly developed mass rescue tool, developed by Pontus Hallin and supported by Matthew Fader of the Swedish Sea Rescue Society.

The Lifboat is a floating and deployable pontoon that can be towed by a maritime SAR vessel. It can be used to save several people at once.

It can also be used as a slide and can be utilised to do transfers in-between different sized boats or from boat to land.

John Millman has enjoyed a nearly 40-year career in SAR. He is currently the Canadian Coastguard’s Search Mission Coordinator (SMC) at the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) in Victoria and is the longest-serving person in that role in Canada’s history.

With a combined 22 years of experience, Chrissy Heu and Michael Cockburn displayed the utmost level of bravery and professionalism when they saved the lives of three people after their yacht overturned in horrendous weather off the coast of regional Western Australia in May 2022.

SOS Mediterraneé is a European humanitarian SAR organisation operating in the Central Mediterranean to help saves lives of those fleeing Libya in overcrowded rubber boats.
IMRF Awards 2022 - Finalist - Rosie Musters, Coastguard New Zealand

A longstanding volunteer at Coastguard New Zealand, both locally and nationally, Rosie was an inspirational member of her unit, coordinating with other SAR agencies and emergency services during a full-scale SAR operation of a distressed vessel in March 2020 that saved the lives the entire crew.

People known to be in distress need to be rescued, of course – and the SAR community knows that this concept must also be extended to those believed to be in distress, and to those who, while not yet in distress, will become so if help is not provided to them in the meantime.
