What is the Rescue Coordination Centre Exchange Programme?

The Rescue Coordination Centre Exchange Programme aims to foster international collaboration and skills development among RCC professionals. Participants have the unique opportunity to broaden their expertise in SAR operations, learn new techniques, explore diverse operational structures, and bring back valuable insights to enhance their home organisations. The programme also provides an excellent platform to build lasting professional networks, exchange ideas, and share experiences with peers from around the world.

RCC Exchange 2027

Building on the success of the IMRF Lifeboat Crew Exchange, the first pilot of this exciting new initiative took place on 2-6 March 2026, and was primarily targeted to Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC, JRCC) operators. The hosting organisations included the HM Coastguard in the United Kingdom and the Irish Coast Guard.

Casey Foot, HM Coastguard Team Leader at the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre in Fareham, said: "Being part of the IMRF Coast Guard Exchange was a real privilege. Hosting the programme was a fantastic opportunity for us in HM Coastguard to share experience, learn from our international colleagues, and strengthen the partnerships that support search and rescue across Europe.

"Exchanges like this challenge our thinking, broaden our perspective, and bring home new ideas that ultimately help us improve the service we provide. The chance to showcase how we work operationally also opened up valuable discussions on our differences and similarities, enabling us to explore best practice together."

The RCC Exchange will take place again in 2027. Details will be provided during the summer in our channels. World Maritime Rescue Congress (WMRC) 2027

The global maritime search and rescue (SAR) community will come together in Gothenburg, Sweden, on 30 May and 1 June 2027 for the next World Maritime Rescue Congress (WMRC), the sector's flagship international event, held every four years. It is hosted by the Swedish Sea Rescue Society (SSRS) in partnership with the International Maritime Rescue Federation (IMRF).
The Maritime SAR Academy: A Global e-Learning Platform

Thanks to a major three-year grant from The TK Foundation, the IMRF has launched the Maritime SAR Academy for maritime SAR personnel and commercial seafarers. It is a modern, accessible e-learning programme designed to strengthen lifesaving capability worldwide.
