The global maritime search and rescue (SAR) community will come together in Gothenburg, Sweden, on 30 May and 1 June 2027 for the next World Maritime Rescue Congress (WMRC), the sector's flagship international event, held every four years.

Hosted by the Swedish Sea Rescue Society (SSRS) in partnership with the International Maritime Rescue Federation (IMRF), WMRC 2027 will bring together SAR organisations, operational leaders, volunteers, policymakers, innovators and industry partners from around the world.

As maritime SAR continues to face increasingly complex challenges, the need for collaboration, shared learning and collective action has never been greater. WMRC provides a unique opportunity to exchange operational experience, explore emerging issues, strengthen international relationships and help shape the future of maritime SAR.

Three Themes, One Shared Mission

The programme will focus on three interconnected themes:

Global SAR System

Exploring how stronger coordination, capability development and shared responsibility can support a more connected and resilient global SAR system.

Thought Advocacy

Examining how maritime SAR expertise can influence policy, strengthen partnerships and amplify the voice of the global SAR community.

Learning, Adapting & Improving

Sharing operational experience, lessons learned and best practice to support continuous improvement, readiness and long-term resilience.

Alongside the congress programme, WMRC 2027 will feature exhibitors, partners and collaborators who are helping to drive innovation, preparedness and operational development across maritime SAR.
